Riken Vitamin began with vitamin A.
Riken Vitamin's origin was the Vitamin Department of the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research
In 1917, the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (Rikagaku Kenkyusho or RIKEN), the first private research institute in Japan, commercialized its method for vitamin A extraction and marketed the product with great success.
In 1938, Riken Eiyo Yakuhin Co., Ltd. was established as a specialty company to industrialize the achievements of the Pharmaceutical Department, including vitamin A. Later, the division specializing in vitamin A branched off, and was established in 1949 as Riken Vitamin Oil Co. Ltd.
